  • IceChat IRC client [Free]

    Hi,

Here's a quick guide about a IRC client, version 7 and 9, for beginners I'll recommend version 9.

This guide is posted at another forums to another community by me (May 17th, 2012) and my nick is P2H at the forums and at the server I'm Play2Hard.

    Original post: Click me!

Remember that you can always install plugins or funny games to your client/own channel.´

IRC.TL network RULES: (the network you're connected to when you want to chat/idle at GamerX channels)

    a) Type /rules when connected to irc.tl and check your console for link.
    b) Or just visit the web page directly: https://www.irc.tl/rules

    Lets begin:

I'm using IceChat , as my IRC client, it's easy to use and it's a freeware.

    Works on (OS-systems):
    - Windows 95/98/ME/2000/XP/2003/Vista and also Windows 7. It has been tested on 64-bit XP too and IceChat 9 works on Windows 8 & 8.1, but the staff at IceChat 7 made their last update at late 2010 and now they decided to make it stable to Windows 8 as well and that's it basically and probably updating IceChat 9 for Windows 10.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Lets Begin:

(If you've downloaded this version for the first time, you have to start with fill in your nickname then this below.)

Remember also, IceChat 9 is a release candidate version/s, but it does work.

    Info about fields below

    Server: Fill in server info.
Display name: What will you call server.
Nick: Your Official nick at irc.tl
Ident name: The field before [This one]@[text]
    Fullname: Client's nick.
Quit message: Type in your quitting message.
Alt.Nick: Type in your alternative nick if you want.
Away nick: Type in your away nick.

    1. Open your IceChat 9 from the desktop, if you made such choice.
    2. Check on the left side of the screen, "Favorite servers", go there and go below to that button box, click on "Add" and simply name the server and add your nickname and the server's name, in order to connect you to a channel. See this picture (And server channel is: irc.tl ):

irc.tl network's servers (connect to the closest to you):
    foco2.us.irc.tl
    foco.nl.irc.tl
    foco.lu.irc.tl
    exnet.fr.irc.tl

    (exnet.se.irc.tl)
    (gamerx.nl.irc.tl)
    (eu.irc.tl)
    (irc.foco.co)

    How do progress then:

And Type in the following information, pick a good server, then change to your OWN nick:

    Or just do this:
    1. Click on "Quick connect":

    2. And add irc.tl as server name + your nickname + # as your channel and it will directly connect you.

    3. Fill in the information, which you can see above, just the needed, 3 ones.

4.After you've logged in type /ns register [your desired password] and [your e-mail], in order to register your account.

5.Remember to always /ns identify [your chosen password] each and every time you log-in to the server.

    Additional features:

    a) You can get a "IRC bouncer" / BNC account too, but it's quite not that needed, but with this, you won't miss chat, when you're offline, but who cares actually, but I thought to mention it, just google or youtube it.

    b) And this IceChat 9 is so easily modified, you can change themes, colors on each module and so on

    c) You can make own scripts or just copy & paste and use them.

    d) If you want to ignore someone, do this; Open the client > Right-click on the server you want to be in > Pick 'Edit Server' > Advanced Server settings (brings you few more tabs) > Ignore list > Pick the nicks and hosts you want to ignore/ block from chatting with you and seeing their text > check 'Enable ignore list' > Done.

    e) Also, remember that you can add favorite channels at your right, click on "Favorite Server" at the wall then on the bottom/floor, in that button box, you'll see "Add", then you can go back to that right wall and choose "Nick List" etc.

My thoughts about this client (7 and 9):

I'm using IceChat, it's easy and free I think and works good, mIRC costs $20 USD for full version, but you can have a free trial on 30 days on it and I've heard you can make it without payment.
