    Mafia III Worldwide Reveal Trailer/Screenahots/Gameplay/Impressions

It’s 1968 and the rules have changed. After years in Vietnam, Lincoln Clay knows this truth: Family isn’t who you’re born with, it’s who you die for.
    PC, XB1, PS4 and coming 2016.

    A bit of gameplay here:

Organized crime has always had its go-to goons. The wise guys with slicked back hair, wingtipped shoes, and suits impeccably pinstriped. That romanticized imagery has been the well-tread territory of the Mafia series so far, but that’s changing with the arrival of Mafia 3.

Set in 1968, Mafia 3 stars a brand new protagonist, Lincoln Clay. He’s half-black, half-white, which matters since his story unfolds in the deep south of New Orleans, where outward, violent racism was a part of everyday life at the time. Clay’s got it tough, because he also grew up an orphan, constantly looking for family, which he found in the army, during the Vietnam War. Suffice to say, he’s seen some things.

Mafia III’s newly released reveal trailer shows just how far 2K’s latest studio, Hangar 13, is willing to go when it comes to subverting franchise expectations. Rather than tell another tale of the Italian mob, the third installment in the crime series is all about brutally dismantling the organization from the outside.

Protagonist Lincoln Clay returns to his home in New Orleans after serving a tour in Vietnam. His adopted family may not be the Cleavers – they’re active members of the city’s black mob – but to a man who grew up in a Catholic orphanage, it offers a stability that he’d been craving his whole life. That ends in a violent act, and now Clay sets out to take out the leader of the Italian mob, Sal Marcano.

You would expect that a game with "Mafia" in the title would focus on the Italian mob, but Mafia III is taking the series in a direction few could have predicted could have predicted. Set in New Orleans in the 1960's, Mafia III stars Lincoln Clay, a black Vietnam veteran who began life as an orphan. Without a family to keep him on the straight and narrow, young Lincoln sought companionship in gangs, the church, and the army, all to no avail. After his stint in Vietnam, Lincoln headed to New Orleans and joined up with the black mob. Though it once had ties to the Mafia, there was a falling out, and the closest thing Lincoln ever had to a family was violently wrenched away from him. Rather than run, Lincoln decides to fight back, and he teams up with a small crew to dismantle the Italian mob in New Orleans and build a new family to call his own.

That's a lot to digest, but Mafia III's premise is simple if you break it down. It's a game that's set in an era when racial tension was high in America, specifically in 1968, when Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated. At the same time, anti-war sentiment was growing; the public wanted an end to the struggle in Vietnam. Lincoln, who is both black and a veteran of the war, is a character that must face the harsh realities of both conflicts while he searches for a place to call home.
